Cervix is a part of the female reproductive organ situated at the end of the uterus and the beginning of the vagina. It allows fluids to enter and exit the uterus.

Importance of cervix

During intercourse, the cervix secretes a non-acidic mucus that makes a safe passageway for the ejaculated semen to pass through.

During pregnancy, the cervix holds the foetus in the womb by forming a mucus plug.

During delivery, the mucus plug dissolves, and the cervix shortens and turns soft paving the way for the process of delivery.
