Cervical cancer is a type of cancer caused in cervix – the lower part connecting uterus and vagina. The cervical cells are turned cancerous mostly due to Human Papillomaviruses (HPV) which is transmitted through sexual contact.

“Cervical cancer is the fourth common cancer among women,” says World Health Organization (WHO). It can be prevented through HPV vaccination and smear examination. Here we look at one of the preventive measures to avoid seriously painful and life-threatening complications.

Pap Smear test

It is a test done to check for cancerous cells or abnormal cells in the cervix that might lead to cancer in future.

It is done for early detection and as cancer goes early detection is key to getting well.

WHO also says that cervical cancer is a cancer that can be easily cured when detected in the early stage. Pap smear test is your answer for that to come true.

Do you need a Doctor Consultation?

The test is done in the doctor’s office where cervical cells care scraped and examined to find abnormal cells that might be precancerous or cancerous.

The process does not hurt much and there might be slight bleeding which is harmless.

The test is a must for women who are sexually active and it is advisable for women above 30 to get tested every 3 years. The test might lead to

1. Abnormal cells

2. Normal cells

Abnormal cells may or may not be cancerous. The results may lead to either more pap tests or colposcopy.

Normal cells give relief and you wouldn’t be subject to the test for the next three years. Pap smear tests are 80 percent accurate and inexpensive.

Your cervical wellbeing is few discomforting Pap tests away. To feel at home and reduce the uncomfortable feeling get tested and treated in A4 among qualified and caring doctors.
